HOW TO PREPARE FOR NEET?

Having a comprehensive knowledge of the NEET syllabus is a must before you start your preparation. As NEET syllabus is quite vast, it is advisable to divide the syllabus of different subjects into small chunks for a better planning.

Knowing the syllabus completely will enable you to segregate the topics that are hard and time-consuming from the quick and easy ones. It gives you a brief idea about memory, conceptual, application based and multi-conceptual topics.

You can’t do whole study in 2-3 months before exam because it leads to increase in stress levels. That’s why proper planning is necessary. Try to keep consistency in study, right from the begining.

Story of hare & tortoise running race is suitable example for this situation and always remind moral of this story “Slow but steady wins the race”.

9 – Step strategy for cracking NEET

1. What should be my first step?

First, grasp all the information related to the exam. If you are aiming to crack NEET, then you must have detailed information about the exam. Keep track on latest news and updates of NEET exam. You must become familiar with the exam pattern, topic-wise marks distribution, and the best books to refer. Knowing all these details beforehand is the best way to prepare for NEET.

2. What should be my daily priorities?

When it comes to the question ‘How to Prepare for NEET?’, it is quite important to set your priorities right. You should make a proper study plan so that you can keep a track of your day-to-day activities. Devoting required amount of time to each subject should be your first priority.

3. How many hours should I study every day?

Do you have the same question “How Many Hours Should I Study for NEET”? Note that less than 6 hours would affect your memory retention. Use the remaining hours to prepare for the NEET exam, after leaving some time for your daily chores. A well planned 7-8 hours of self-study is enough to crack any entrance exam.

4. Which Subject should I start first?

Can you eat one day only roti, the next day only curry and the other day only dal to fill your stomach?

No, isn’t it!

Students who study only one subject throughout the day loses their motivation level gradually. Physics being more analytical gives mental pressure when you are not studying regularly. So, it is advised to study some topics of every subject every day so that you can keep your motivation level high.

5. Which study material/books should I refer?

Try to refer the books which contain the complete syllabus as prescribed by NTA. Students should prepare from the best study material for the examination. Kindly note that in majority of reference books there will be some percentage beyond syllabus. So avoid books where there is more deviation.

NCERT is the most reliable book for learning the concepts for NEET. Make sure that you go through NCERT contents atleast 4-5 times in your preparation. Referring NCERT ensures that you do not miss out on any concept/topic.

6. Which subject I need to focus more?

Generally, students spend most of the time on the subject which is more interesting to them (Obviously Biology for NEET preparing students). Some students are very strong in one subject & weak in others.

You have to analyze yourself. This analysis will help you to create an exam plan to improve your weak areas and strengthen your strong areas

7. What should be my study plan?

Prepare a weekly study plan and assign a fixed number of topics to each week. You must challenge yourself and try to complete the decided chapters on time. This will ensure that syllabus is completed on time.

The study sessions should be a mix of theory, problem-solving every day. Ensure that you give equal weightage to all subjects.

The suggested subject-wise planning should be like this:

  • For Biology be sure that more than 95% of the MCQs are going to come from NCERT book. If you have read Biology books from start to end, you can get more than 85 out of 90 questions correct. Do practice MCQs from atleast one reference book.
  • For Inorganic chemistry also you need to refer NCERT book only. Physical Chemistry & Organic Chemistry are application based, so, you have to read the theory & practice more MCQs from these chapters.
  • Physics is about formula and its application for numericals. If you have memorized the formula and the relationship between the various terms in the formula, it would become easy to solve MCQs related to it. Definitely you should be strong in mathematical calculations. These days, good number of theoretical questions are also given in NEET. So, to score more, in-depth subject knowledge is essential.

8. How should I revise?

Revision is the key to success in any exam. Previous NEET questions demands complete clarity on concepts. Revise each and every topic you have studied during the two years of your preparation, at regular intervals.

Revision not only helps you in checking your knowledge, speed and accuracy but also boost self-confidence. Remember, proper revision plan will boost your NEET Score.

9. What should be my final step of preparation?

The final step, which completes the process of any exam preparation, is its evaluation. Without evaluation, your preparation for NEET will remain deficient.

In order to evaluate your exam preparation, practicing mock tests on a regular basis. You must take the mock test to familiarize yourself with the actual test environment.

Time is the most crucial factor where you have to solve 180 questions in 3 hrs 20 minutes. Solving full-length mock test is required and you need to improve your time management skill. Take guidance from your teachers, it helps you immensely.
